Prince2 Hits New Milestones But Is It Enough?

By Gary Mattoc

There is little doubting that PRINCE2 has within 15 years grown into by far the most widely used project management methodology.

The APM Team which manages the PRINCE2 teaching along with certification program just recently noted that some five hundred, thousand Basic foundation exams as well as two hundred seventy five,000 Practitioner exams have already been carried out. The 2011 Arras Users survey of project managers notes that over 50 % have PRINCE2 recognition.

PRINCE2 is really a solid methodology and embodies the most effective procedures which was developed by outstanding organisation throughout quite a few years. The trouble tends to be that it is sometimes misunderstood.

On its very own, a five day PRINCE2 Practitioner coaching class isn’t going to convert a young student into a business supervisor.

On its own, PRINCE2 certification of a team of project administrators does not mean that an company will provide plans a great deal more expertly.

On its own, the widespread adoption of PRINCE2 will not change project management into a true profession.

PRINCE2 Strengths

1. A well-known project management language in order to facilitate interaction within and between these companies

2. A structured project methodology influenced by what actually operates

3. A terminology and also methodology which can be readily shown

4. Coverage of project governance points which are often ignored

5. Capability to scale to suit jobs and scenarios of differing complexity

6. Part of the family of inter-related very best practice guidance which also contains ITIL and MSP

PRINCE2 Weaknesses

1. Limited consideration to your personal skill sets vital to project accomplishment

2. Tendency to emphasise ‘Processes’ above ‘Principles’

3. Association with over bureaucratic documentation not to mention software systems

4. Skills purely knowledge based

– Not easily applied to an ‘Agile’ or iterative process

5. Large volume, low cost ‘sheep dip’ teaching hazards devaluation of the PRINCE2 credential

Professionalisation of Project Managing

thirty years before assignments have been primarily the preserve of engineering and construction industries. Even then job managers were usually assigned to a certain project on an ad hoc basis from engineering or other ‘mainstream’ jobs.

Within today’s fast shifting society, project management is the means by which enterprise initiatives as varied as growth of internet services, organization restructuring, and culture transformation are implemented. It is almost usually a central factor. Expert project managers develop transferable skill sets which they are able to administer to tasks in lots of industries.

PRINCE2 training and certification has aided underpin this transition however it is professional bodies such as the Organization for Project Management (APM) within the Britain and also the Project Management Institute (PMI) inside the Usa which are key to acquiring expert recognition. The APM has unveiled the APM Registered Project Professional – and it can be surely only a matter of time before they accomplish chartered reputation. Principal aspects of every line of work are extensive teaching, validated expertise and ongoing skilled growth.

Rigorous Training program

In accordance to the existing Arras People questionnaire, 27% of project supervisors often don’t have any professional qualification – so there is one way to proceed.

Educational institutions are beginning to undertake research into project management and to include project management modules in broader management programs – as well as to offer project qualifications in their own right.

It has been refreshing come across linkage between the PRINCE2 teaching in addition to the certifications belonging to the APM which focus on project manager skill sets, in accordance with their ‘Body of Knowledge’. The APMP for PRINCE2 Practitioners teaching tutorials provides a extremely fast track route.

And new shorter classes are building in stature and acceptance to acknowledge the shifting climate in which project managers are working. In particular the Certified ScrumMaster training course along with the Certified Agile Project Manager program serve to supply skill level sets and frameworks to adopt a far more iterative project methodology.

Continuing Expert Improvement

The PMI is definitely the most methodical Project Management business in terms of Continuing Specialized Improvement. Members of their PMP certification have to build-up regular Professional Advancement Units (PDUs) so that you can maintain their qualification.

The APM Team that’s accountable for PRINCE2 takes a less organised approach. It can be necessary to obtain a re-registration assessment every five years. Whilst not mandatory, most of the people in this situation select a 2 or 3 day PRINCE2 Re-registration coaching program to refresh their awareness to the newest release. Beyond this, the APMG have been occupied in creating complementary most beneficial practice certifications such as MSP, Management of Risk (MoR) and most currently, Management of Programmes (MoP).

The breakthrough of PRINCE2 has long been a very important and influential characteristic of the project management landscape during the past twenty many years. The main focus now has to be on making it function at the levels for the individual, organisation and also the project profession. This has to be carried out in cooperation with bodies such as the APM and PMI. It will have to go hand in hand with validation of the past experiences of project administrators. And we need training which will addresses the personal skill sets of our project administrators – and that would help them adjust to an continually altering project conditions.

The re-entry of the ISS Soyuz 9 spacecraft was perfect, returning the astronauts to Earth 53 miles northeast of the town of Arkalyk after 192 days, 19 hours and 2 minutes in space for the Expedition 10 crew. The recovery team reached the capsule in minutes.

They launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan last Oct. 13 at 11:06 p.m. EDT. During their increment they performed two spacewalks, continued station maintenance and did scientific experiments.

Notable accomplishments included replacing critical hardware in the Joint Quest Airlock; repairing U.S. spacesuits; and submitting a scientific research paper on ultrasound use in space. Chiao was also the first astronaut to vote in the U.S. Presidential election from space. The crew completed two spacewalks, including experiment installation and tasks to prepare the Station for the arrival of the new European Automated Transfer Vehicle next year.

Aboard the Station, Commander Sergei Krikalev and Flight Engineer and NASA Station Science Officer John Phillips, the Expedition 11 crew, are beginning a six-month mission. It will include the resumption of Space Shuttle flights and two spacewalks from the Station. Expedition 11 is scheduled to return to Earth on October 7, 2005. The two latest occupants of the station launched with Vittori from Baikonur April 14.

Ingrid Newkirk, co-founder of PETA, on animal rights and the film about her life

Tuesday, November 20, 2007

Last night HBO premiered I Am An Animal: The Story of Ingrid Newkirk and PETA. Since its inception, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has made headlines and raised eyebrows. They are almost single-handedly responsible for the movement against animal testing and their efforts have raised the suffering animals experience in a broad spectrum of consumer goods production and food processing into a cause célèbre.

PETA first made headlines in the Silver Spring monkeys case, when Alex Pacheco, then a student at George Washington University, volunteered at a lab run by Edward Taub, who was testing neuroplasticity on live monkeys. Taub had cut sensory ganglia that supplied nerves to the monkeys’ fingers, hands, arms, legs; with some of the monkeys, he had severed the entire spinal column. He then tried to force the monkeys to use their limbs by exposing them to persistent electric shock, prolonged physical restraint of an intact arm or leg, and by withholding food. With footage obtained by Pacheco, Taub was convicted of six counts of animal cruelty—largely as a result of the monkeys’ reported living conditions—making them “the most famous lab animals in history,” according to psychiatrist Norman Doidge. Taub’s conviction was later overturned on appeal and the monkeys were eventually euthanized.

PETA was born.

In the subsequent decades they ran the Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty against Europe’s largest animal-testing facility (footage showed staff punching beagle puppies in the face, shouting at them, and simulating sex acts while taking blood samples); against Covance, the United State’s largest importer of primates for laboratory research (evidence was found that they were dissecting monkeys at its Vienna, Virginia laboratory while the animals were still alive); against General Motors for using live animals in crash tests; against L’Oreal for testing cosmetics on animals; against the use of fur for fashion and fur farms; against Smithfield Foods for torturing Butterball turkeys; and against fast food chains, most recently against KFC through the launch of their website kentuckyfriedcruelty.com.

They have launched campaigns and engaged in stunts that are designed for media attention. In 1996, PETA activists famously threw a dead raccoon onto the table of Anna Wintour, the fur supporting editor-in-chief of Vogue, while she was dining at the Four Seasons in New York, and left bloody paw prints and the words “Fur Hag” on the steps of her home. They ran a campaign entitled Holocaust on your Plate that consisted of eight 60-square-foot panels, each juxtaposing images of the Holocaust with images of factory farming. Photographs of concentration camp inmates in wooden bunks were shown next to photographs of caged chickens, and piled bodies of Holocaust victims next to a pile of pig carcasses. In 2003 in Jerusalem, after a donkey was loaded with explosives and blown up in a terrorist attack, Newkirk sent a letter to then-PLO leader Yasser Arafat to keep animals out of the conflict. As the film shows, they also took over Jean-Paul Gaultier‘s Paris boutique and smeared blood on the windows to protest his use of fur in his clothing.

The group’s tactics have been criticized. Co-founder Pacheco, who is no longer with PETA, called them “stupid human tricks.” Some feminists criticize their campaigns featuring the Lettuce Ladies and “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” ads as objectifying women. Of their Holocaust on a Plate campaign, Anti-Defamation League Chairman Abraham Foxman said “The effort by PETA to compare the deliberate systematic murder of millions of Jews to the issue of animal rights is abhorrent.” (Newkirk later issued an apology for any hurt it caused). Perhaps most controversial amongst politicians, the public and even other animal rights organizations is PETA’s refusal to condemn the actions of the Animal Liberation Front, which in January 2005 was named as a terrorist threat by the United States Department of Homeland Security.

David Shankbone attended the pre-release screening of I Am An Animal at HBO’s offices in New York City on November 12, and the following day he sat down with Ingrid Newkirk to discuss her perspectives on PETA, animal rights, her responses to criticism lodged against her and to discuss her on-going life’s work to raise human awareness of animal suffering. Below is her interview.

ANZACs remembered ninety years after assault on Gallipoli

Monday, April 25, 2005

Australians and New Zealanders throughout the world stood still for their national war memorial days in remembrance of the failed Australian and New Zealand Army Corps — ANZAC — attack on Gallipoli, Turkey that began on 25 April 1915. The fateful attack was designed to end the First World War more quickly by creating a supply line to Russia. A hundred-thousand died in the battle, remembered every year as ANZAC Day by both nations.

The British-directed battle of Gallipoli is often seen as the defining moment in the ‘birth’ of Australia and New Zealand. With New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark saying “For New Zealand as for Australia it was at Gallipoli that our young nations came of age.” [1]. This being the 90th anniversary of the attack, Clark, Australian Prime Minister John Howard and Britain’s Prince Charles are all at Gallipoli to remember that fateful campaign.

Some controversy has been created about Australian Prime Minister John Howard not attending the New Zealand ceremony at Chunuk Bair on the Gallipoli Peninsula. This has upset many people as it is a break in a tradition that the Prime Ministers attend the ceremonies of both countries.

Wikinews interviews Darcy Richardson, Democratic Party presidential challenger to Barack Obama

Friday, November 25, 2011

U.S. Democratic Party presidential candidate Darcy Richardson of Florida took some time to answer a few questions from Wikinews reporter William S. Saturn.

Richardson, 55, is a political activist that helped form the New Democrats in 1989 and founded the progressive Battleground Blog earlier this year. He is also a political historian, and has authored six books covering third parties and presidential elections, including A Nation Divided: The 1968 Presidential Campaign (2002). His current work, The Spirit of ’76: Eugene McCarthy’s Struggle for Open Politics, chronicles the late Democratic Senator Eugene McCarthy’s 1976 presidential campaign for which he volunteered. Richardson admires McCarthy, and served as manager for his 1988 presidential run. Recently, Richardson advised Brian Moore’s Socialist Party USA presidential campaign in 2008.

In addition, Richardson himself has sought political office, albeit unsuccessfully. In 1980, he ran for Pennsylvania Auditor General, and in 1988, vied for one of Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senate seats as a member of the Consumer Party. Last year, he ran for Lieutenant Governor of Florida as the running mate of gubernatorial candidate Farid Khavari.

Richardson has criticized President Barack Obama’s policies for being too similar to those of former President George W. Bush. He hoped to convince several prominent progressives to challenge Obama in the Democratic primaries, but none were available to do so. Last month, Richardson decided to begin a campaign himself and announced through his Battleground Blog that he would challenge Obama in the Democratic Party primaries as a progressive candidate. So far, he has qualified for the New Hampshire primary in January and the Missouri primary in February. In an interview with the Independent Political Report, Richardson proclaimed his campaign slogan as “no fourth term for George W. Bush.”

Finding The Best Skin Care For Wrinkles

Submitted by: Peter Clark

Skin care is a subject that gets closer to your heart the older you get. As you age your interest in finding the latest new wrinkle cream increases, and you start to read more avidly about skin care for wrinkles.

However it might surprise you to know that the best skin care for wrinkle prevention isn’t finding the best new wrinkle cream on the market. The best way to prevent wrinkles has nothing to do with anti wrinkle creams.

Our skin health, and progress of our skin towards wrinkles and sagging, is more about our lifestyle and overall health. Skin health follows overall health, and it is very difficult to achieve great looking, young looking glowing skin if we are generally unhealthy. Better health translates to better looking, and healthier skin. Regardless of whether we search out the latest new wrinkle cream or not.

And of course there are other factors as well. Obviously our age is a huge factor in the look and health of our skin, and there is nothing we can do about that. A 20 year old is just more likely to have great skin than a 60 year old. That’s just a fact of life.

But whilst we cannot do anything about our age, there is lots we can do for our health and at the same time achieving the best skin care for wrinkles and wrinkle prevention. It’s really very simple. Notice I said simple, not easy.

First thing we need to do is to minimize our lifestyle factors. Lifestyle factors are a huge contributor to our overall health, and to our skin health. One of the worst things you can do to your skin, and to your body, is to smoke.

It is well recognised that smoking has an extremely negative impact on our skin. People who smoke have older looking skin when they are younger. Wrinkles develop earlier and are more pronounced. If you smoke, and you want your skin to look better, stop smoking right now. And your body will thank you for it in so many other ways other than in your skin health.

Next comes exercise. If you don’t exercise then you need to. A good exercise routine heavily impacts your overall health, and your skin health. More and more research is showing the major benefits of exercise on so many aspects of our health. You must develop a good exercise routine, not just for your skin health but for your overall health. And as I said, the two go together.

Finally comes your diet. A change in your diet can be the best skin care for wrinkles that you can do. Not only will a good diet improve your skin health and the look of your skin, but it will also impact your overall health. And at the risk of repetition, skin health follows our overall health.

Our diets rich in pizzas, burgers and processed foods is not good for our skin, and not good for our health generally. We need a diet rich in natural vitamins, minerals, anti oxidants and essential oils and you won’t find too many of these in pizzas, burgers or processed foods.

Eat less of these and eat more vegetables and fruits.

And finally, take high quality supplements to supplement those vitamins, minerals, anti oxidants and essential oils that you still aren’t getting, even through a good diet. Because it’s practically impossible to eat well enough to supply our bodies with all the vitamins, minerals, anti oxidants and essential oils that we need for optimum health and overall skin health. The best supplements, (note I said the best supplements, most aren’t very good), will provide you with a complete supply of what your body needs in the right combinations.

Follow these simple steps and you’ll be pursuing the best skin care for wrinkles there is. By all means add to this the use of great quality organic skin care products and you’ve got all bases covered. Do all this and your skin will be so much healthier, and look so much better, than it ever could using that new wrinkle cream that came out last month that promises so much, (but delivers so little).

Remember, I said it’s simple, not easy. But do this and your whole life, not just your skin, will change for the better.

Algeria blocks internet across nation to prevent cheating in diploma exams

Saturday, June 23, 2018

In order to prevent cheating in high school diploma exams, the Algerian government ordered a series of two-hour nation-wide internet blockades, starting on Wednesday, reports from tech giant Oracle and Agence France-Presse confirmed.

Per the blockage, neither the cellular nor the wired data connections are to provide internet access during the exam hours. Social networking website Facebook has been blocked for the entire period. More than 500 thousand students had to appear for re-examination in June 2016 after question papers were leaked on Facebook. During the re-examinations, there were partial bans on Facebook and Twitter, and during that month, multiple employees working at the education ministry and the exam printers were arrested on suspicion of leaking the exams.

CCTV cameras have been installed at the locations where the exam question papers are printed, and metal detectors have been installed in over 2000 exam centres. According to various reports, around 700 thousand students are due to take the exams, whose results are expected to be declared a month later from July 22. Electronic gadgets are banned from the exam centres.

National education minister Nouria Benghabrit said the decision for the nation-wide blockade was “not comfortable” for the ministry, but it “should not passively stand in front of such a possible leak.” According to internet service provider Algérie Télécom, the move was “aimed at ensuring the high school diploma tests run smoothly.”

Other countries including India and Iraq also have a record of using internet blackouts as preventative measures against cheating during exams.
